Hi,
We were too late to get into the San Marino conference but as a team we are interested in playing an active part as contributors to the AthTech community.
Firstly a bit of an intro. Our team is also my family. We are all runners or athletes. I met my wife at Highgate Harriers and we now have 4 sons and a daughter. We are now spread across several clubs in the UK, Shaftesbury, Dacorum and Luton. This is what happens when everyone gets to chose their own clubs!
Three of us are working on Arenaview Ben, Max and myself. We started in 2023 but Ben went full-time in 2024.
Arenaview is a community for athletes and teams/clubs focussed on competitions. If you want our “same” then we are a kind of Strava for competitions with a mix of Instagram thrown in. We are not a results service, a competition management tool or a race entry system. We are a sports media platform with a focus on Athletics. We aim to launch in the next month to small groups.
We need to make money at some point but this might take a while and when we do it will be from providing extra services to teams. It is our intention to always provide free-access to fans, athletes and teams to take part in the service.
We as a team are very committed to open data, open standards and open source. It’s hard to see how this will work out in regards to this AthTech group but is likely to be around data and related software initially.
We like the work done to create the OpenTrack w3c data schema. We want to work to see this adopted but understand that this will not be easy. I have experience working within the telecom industry with data sharing initiatives for switching and ant-fraud, it’s a slow process to get these things adopted and even with Ofcom pushing those involved it takes many, many years to get anywhere.
In the few areas that we intend to work with results data we will look at adopting/promoting the standard. Further than this we would like to create or take part in a free to access and free to submit to data store for results that are in the OpenTrack format. I know that there are initiatives going on here that likely cover this already, so at the moment consider us interested in helping out.
Anyway, if you are going to San Marino, have a good time.
Any questions, feel free to ask away.
Dan
